Mass and Interiority Design Studio

As the first studio of the B-Arch education, 1A establishes a foundational knowledge of formal and conceptual ideas that are current and relevant to the contemporary discipline of architecture. A series of three interrelated projects guide the students toward a robust ability to analyze, design, and discuss two and three-dimensional visual material. In a contemporary cultural context of media oversaturation, the studio responds with an architectural curriculum that plunges into the expansive territory of material and image production. Students are taught a variety of linear and nonlinear workflows in order to challenge conventional ideas and hierarchies about architectural thinking and the tools of production.
